We started in Utah and we continue to build in Utah—working to improve our communities one project at a time. That said, we are always honored when our projects are recognized on the big stage, and so is the case for Utah Construction & Design’s Most Outstanding Projects for 2023.

Up against 80 competing projects of all scopes and sizes, and closely scoured by a panel of eight judges, Layton took home three honors.

And the winners are…

Bristlecone Hall at Southern Utah University | Cedar City, UT
Public Over $10M

Client: Division of Facilities Construction and Management, Southern Utah University
Architect: MHTN Architects

Spanning three stories, Bristlecone Hall is a state-of-the-art academic building with 17 classrooms, seven labs, seven art and film studios, and 80 open workstations for faculty and staff. As a multi-discipline building for arts, film, and photography, it also includes a darkroom for film development.

Murray City Hall | Murray, UT
Municipal

Client: Murray City
Architect: GSBS Architects

As the first city hall in the community’s history, the three-story space comprises everything from administration offices and council chambers to a two-story police department—complete with temporary holding spaces, evidence processing, a crime lab, and secured storage space. With high-end finishes inside and out, it’s a place the entire city can be proud of.

Kathryn F. Kirk Center for Comprehensive Cancer Care & Women’s Cancers | Salt Lake City, UT
Healthcare – Large

Client: Division of Facilities Construction and Management, Huntsman Cancer Institute
Architect: Arch Nexus

This complex project is a significant addition to the Huntsman Cancer Center. At 205,000 SF across 10 floors (one below grade), the facility includes 48 inpatient rooms, new centers for endoscopy & BMT, and an entire floor dedicated to women’s cancers. An upgraded women’s center is equipped with outpatient exam, procedure, consult, and mammography areas. There’s also space for increased services to blood and marrow transplant patients and a new endoscopy center. Finally, our team added a 44,000 SF, 1,500-space parking garage.

We’d like to thank UC&D for the recognition in being selected among the 37 Most Outstanding Projects for 2023. Most importantly, we thank our dedicated employees who worked tirelessly on these projects, maintaining the Layton Way and providing the predictable outcomes we continuously strive to provide.
