San Antonio, Texas (10/29/2025) – Layton Construction has broken ground on a significant renovation and expansion project at Methodist Hospital Metropolitan, designed to enhance healthcare capacity for the growing San Antonio community. The project includes operating room additions and a new parking garage to meet increasing patient demand.

“As our city has grown, so has the need for exceptional healthcare,” said Greg Seiler, CEO of Methodist Hospital Metropolitan. “We’ve responded with expansions, innovations, and investments in technology and services. And today, we take a bold step forward.”

Project Scope

Layton is completing three new operating rooms to support growing surgical services, including a hybrid operating room equipped with specialized imaging equipment for advanced procedures.

A 969-space parking garage will also be built to improve accessibility for patients and visitors.

Construction Approach

With limited available land, the project requires innovative construction strategies. “There’s not a big open field over there that we can build a new building or a new wing,” said Seiler. “We have to get very innovative in what we’re doing here.” “The complexity of this project goes beyond the construction itself, said Mike Coleman, Director of Texas Healthcare at Layton. “We’re building a parking garage and renovating critical surgical spaces while the hospital continues serving patients 24/7. That requires constant communication, adaptive scheduling, and a deep understanding of healthcare construction.
