Salt Lake City, UT (August 12, 2024) – Layton Construction, along with Smith Entertainment Group and the city of Sandy, officially broke ground on the highly anticipated Utah Hockey Club training facility. The facility will feature two NHL regulation ice surfaces and will serve as the official home for the team’s offices.

With a strong focus on the community, the facility will be open to the public whenever the team isn’t practicing or playing. Offering public ice time, space for youth hockey programs, and convenient access to shopping, this location is set to be a hub for both sports enthusiasts and local residents.

Ryan Smith, Governor of the Utah Hockey Club, stated the unique aspect of the facility: “One thing [about the facility]… that may be different than other sports is when our guys are off the ice, the community [can] be on the ice. I don’t think there is another sport like that where they take over the playing surface. Hopefully, these are your kids, these are your grandkids, these are your friends. Our goal is obviously that not only are we bringing the NHL to Utah, but we are truly building out this sport.”

Layton’s laced up and ready to face off, making sure the facility is ready before the puck drops next season. Building something special for the Utah Hockey Club is instrumental in providing the team with a true home and competitive advantage as they settle into Salt Lake Valley. Set against the stunning backdrop of Utah’s mountains, the facility will offer a unique environment where the team can train and thrive.

The training facility is scheduled for completion in 2025, in line with the Utah Hockey Club’s second season in the NHL. In the meantime, the Utah Hockey Club will be using the Utah Olympic Oval as a temporary practice facility.
