Vander-built.

Vanderbilt’s newest student housing complex replaced four existing 13-story dormitories, which Layton carefully imploded prior to construction. Built in phases, this project added three seven-story residential colleges (Nicholas S. Zeppos College, Rothschild College, and College C) and one 20-story apartment tower, all constructed along West End Avenue—one of Nashville’s busiest streets.

Living pretty, inside and out.

Though the structures are largely made of concrete, the design included ornate, Gothic interior and exterior finishes to reflect Vanderbilt’s 150-year-old aesthetic. Layton brought on sophisticated trade partners early in design to ensure quality was achieved within budget.

Beautifying the West End.

In addition to the residential colleges, Layton reconstructed 500,000 SF of outdoor community space from a concrete jungle into pedestrian and bicycle-friendly pathways, and green spaces. Layton also performed extensive infrastructure upgrades to storm water, sanitary, electrical, and hot water utilities throughout the neighborhood.
