Grand Strand Medical Center

In the first of three projects at Grand Strand Medical Center—which also serves as University of South Carolina's teaching hospital—Layton completed a two-story, 107,000 SF vertical expansion, adding 24 patients rooms and 24 med/surg rooms and incorporating several prefabricated components. The project team worked carefully to avoid disrupting the fully-functioning hospital, while weathering two hurricanes throughout construction. Despite challenges, Layton kept the project on schedule with zero incidents.

Performed on the sixth floor of the facility, the 24,000 SF remodel and renovation of Grand Strand's rehabilitation area added 24 beds to meet increased demand and provide patients better access to rehab services post treatment, namely for those who have suffered strokes, surgeries, or some type of trauma.

In Layton’s third project at the facility—again, working through two hurricanes and full-functioning operations—the project team added a 10,000 SF linear accelerator. Overall, every project was completed on time while minimizing disruption and keeping staff, patients, and visitors safe.
