Loma Linda, California (November 19, 2024) – Layton Construction, alongside Loma Linda University Children’s Health, marked a significant step forward in pediatric healthcare with the groundbreaking of its new Children’s Health Specialty Clinics Building. This 105,000 SF, state-of-the-art facility will consolidate pediatric specialty services under one roof, improving access and convenience for families across the region.

Currently, pediatric specialty clinics are scattered across various locations, often making it difficult for families to access the care their children need. This new building will bring together a comprehensive range of services, including orthopedic surgery, high-risk infant care, cardiology, speech therapy, and more. Located directly across from the inpatient units, the facility will enhance coordination of care and ensure families have seamless access to world-class medical expertise.

Among those in attendance was Bryson Morris, a brave young patient whose journey at Loma Linda University Children’s Health has inspired many. Born with a congenital heart defect, Bryson has undergone multiple surgeries at the hospital and is a shining example of the life-changing care provided by the team of award-winning doctors, nurses, and staff. His presence at the groundbreaking served as a powerful reminder of the impact this new facility will have on children like him for generations to come.

“Loma Linda University Children’s Health is special. It’s a place where we get to watch children grow up, where we hold hands during life’s hardest conversations, and where families are never alone,” said Dr. Anthony Hilliard, Acting Chief Executive Officer at Loma Linda University Health Hospitals. “I’ve heard countless families say, ‘Loma Linda saved my child,’ and those words resonate with me deeply. They remind us why we’re here, and they renew our commitment to push forward — always growing, always striving to do more.”

Cris Bryant, executive vice president at Layton, emphasized the dedication and craftsmanship going into the project. “We are passionate about building healthcare facilities. Each person that touches this building will understand that they must have two driving factors: passion and purpose. Passion for their specific trade or skill—whether that be steel, concrete, drywall, or plumbing—and a purpose, which is to build a healing place for children,” said Bryant. “This project will employ over 250 skilled craft workers from right here in the Inland Empire. These men and women building this specialty clinic will also visit this building for their family care.”

The groundbreaking event included children from the local community, donors, hospital executives, Layton and Mascari Dinh Architects representatives in turning the first shovels of soil.
