Farmington, Utah (9/16/25) – Community members, athletes, and local leaders gathered to celebrate the official ribbon cutting of Common Spirit Center at Western Sports Park, a reimagined 55-acre sports campus designed to become a premier destination for youth athletics and regional events.

Formerly known as the Legacy Event Center, Western Sports Park underwent a significant remodel and expansion to deliver one of Utah’s most versatile sports and event venues. The new facility includes six full-size outdoor soccer fields, including a championship field with fixed seating for more than 2,000 fans and over 120,000 square feet of indoor, multi-use spacefeaturing two arenas equipped with stadium seating.

With 35% of Davis County’s population under the age of 19, county leaders have made youth sports a priority, ensuring Western Sports Park will provide families with a top-tier environment to play, train, and compete.

Beyond just fields and arenas, the project serves to teach teamwork, resilience, and perseverance through sport—lessons that are essential for young athletes and communities alike. Tourism leaders noted that sports tourism generates more than $114 billion in economic impact nationwide, and Davis County is positioned to capture more of that energy by creating a venue that welcomes families, visitors, and athletes from across the region.

“Two years ago, we stood on this very spot and spoke about reimagining the fairgrounds into a true destination—transforming a place rooted in tradition into one that would serve the next generations of families, youth, athletes, and visitors. Today, that vision has become a reality. Western Sports Park is more than a facility; it’s a symbol of partnership, community building, and a shared belief in the power of place.” Jessica Merrill, Tourism Director for Davis County.

Sports play an important role in Utah, and Western Sports Park positions Davis County as a hub for regional and national tournaments. With the Olympic Games set to return to Utah in 2034, investments like this help solidify the state’s reputation as a world-class destination for athletics and community events.

“A project like Western Sports Park is only possible through true partnership with Davis County, local cities, schools, and organizations who share a vision for the future. We’re proud to have been part of creating a place that will bring this community together for generations.” Brian McBeth, Vice President at Layton.
