South Salt Lake, UT (July 3, 2025) – Construction is officially underway on the South Salt Lake Public Works Campus—spanning 82,697 square feet and designed to centralize city operations and modernize aging infrastructure with upgraded, purpose-built facilities. After more than a decade of planning, this long-awaited project signals a major investment in the city’s operational future.
Incorporating sustainability and community engagement, the project includes solar panel installations, premanufactured covered parking at the south building, and automated gate access for enhanced security. A focal point of the project is the revitalization of South Salt Lake’s iconic 160-foot water tower.
Additionally, the campus includes two concrete tilt-up buildings and three covered outdoor storage facilities. The two-story south building will house the public works administration offices, customer service areas, break rooms, and workspace for the water, stormwater, and street divisions. It also includes an indoor truck wash station and maintenance bays tailored to city service vehicles.
The north building is a single-story structure with mezzanine levels, built to accommodate the fleet and wastewater divisions. This building consolidates all vehicle and equipment maintenance under one roof, with dedicated repair bays and modern servicing equipment.
“This project is more than just a new building; it’s a symbol of progress and community pride,” said South Salt Lake Mayor Cherie Wood. “By consolidating operations, we’ll improve coordination and response times, ensuring better service for our residents. It’s a smart, efficient upgrade to our city’s infrastructure.”
With construction beginning this month, the campus is anticipated to be completed by spring of 2027.
