Supporting the sustainable future of Caltech.
Layton completed a major modernization effort to Caltech’s central utility plant, with zero interruptions to students, staff, and the surrounding community in the process. Caltech’s CUP enables efficient operation of research equipment across the campus, while keeping HVAC systems running during California’s warm summer months. Layton replaced the campus’ four original cooling towers with six 36-foot-tall stainless steel cooling towers. The overall scope also included the installation of four chilled water pumps, structural upgrades, and a new exterior envelope.
