Boise, ID (June 11, 2024) – A groundbreaking ceremony for the new north tower and medical office plaza at St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center took place on June 11, marking the beginning of a significant phase in the hospital’s capital improvement program.
The brief event, featuring St. Luke’s and public officials, including Boise Mayor Lauren McLean, took place on the construction lot near Fort Street and First Street, just north of the current St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center, which will remain in place.
The multi-phase build at St. Luke’s includes a variety of new and renovated facilities at their flagship campus. Approved by the city of Boise in 2015, the St. Luke’s master plan started with the Idaho Elks to support St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital, the only children’s hospital in the state.
Previous completed phases include essential infrastructure enhancements, including a shipping and receiving building, central plant, parking garage, and extensive utility upgrades.
This next phase of the expansion project—the north tower and medical office plaza—will provide Boise and the surrounding communities with improved access to healthcare and updated medical facilities. The facility is expected to be two stories below ground and nine stories above ground.
The new hospital tower will include:
- 860,000 square feet of patient–centered care.
- 80 additional patient beds, eventually increasing the hospital’s capacity to more than 500 beds.
- Seven new operating rooms for a total of 28 at the Boise Medical Center.
- Two neurointerventional biplanes for innovative diagnosis of neurological disorders.
“We are honored to work with St. Luke’s on this vital project that will help provide care for community members into the future,” said Jeremy Hobbs, Vice President of Layton Construction. “As builders in Boise, we take great pride in contributing to the growth of our local healthcare.”
With an estimated completion in 2029, these additions will support a wide range of medical specialties, enhancing St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center as a leading healthcare provider.
