Lahaina, Hawaii (August 13, 2024) – After the devastating impact of the Lahaina fires in 2023, Layton Construction, in partnership with TY Management and Daiwa Lease, has led the construction of 50 modular homes in a philanthropic initiative to support the families affected by the tragic events.

The teams celebrated the completion of these homes with a ceremony on Tuesday, August 16, 2024, which range from two to four bedrooms and are equipped with full furnishings, including appliances, a kitchen, and bathroom amenities.

Building on the island of Maui brings unique challenges, especially in the wake of the Lahaina fires. With the island’s limited resources, including equipment and manpower, the Kapalua Village Emergency Housing project required thorough planning and proactive coordination. Layton’s relationships with the local contractor base proved key in ensuring minimal delays and reducing the impact of those challenges.

This project represents the power of communities and organizations working together towards a common purpose. The goal has been to provide safe, temporary homes that will offer stability and hope to those who suffered losses.

“It’s a beautiful thing to see this project come to life,” says Jesse O. Larson, Layton Construction superintendent on the project. “Being part of this effort has been a blessing and incredibly fulfilling to witness.”

Governor Josh Green and Mayor Richard Bissen attended the celebration, noting, “This has helped provide a stable, safe, and comfortable environment for families who have endured so much.” The first 19 houses are being turned over this week, with a few families already beginning to move in while construction on the remaining homes is finished.

Completed in time for the one-year anniversary of the fires, the Kapalua Village Emergency Housing project stands as a testament to the spirit of the Lahaina community.
