The $6 million, 10,000 SF building will have space for six flexible-use classrooms plus a “maker space” designed for deeper learning. The technology and classroom spaces will be untethered so they can be relocated or reconfigured for large and small groups. At the groundbreaking, the building name was presented as the David Pratt Center, in honor of Island School supporter David Pratt who raised $4 million for the project.
Island School is an accredited, nonprofit college preparatory school on Kaua’i. The school is growing, and this new building will add engineering classes, expand the technology curriculum, and add certified advanced placement classes and deeper learning opportunities.
As part of Layton Construction’s winning proposal and interview, we presented a plan to engage and teach current students by leading them in a series of upcoming special projects. Layton will organize a mock bid for students and a furniture, fixture, and equipment selection and design competition.
