After Layton successfully constructed two Kohl’s Department Stores in Gilbert Arizona, Kohl’s contracted with them to construct two stores along the Wasatch Front, which were scheduled to open the same day as two others in the Salt Lake area.

Kohl's, a Wisconsin-based retail giant, is known for bombarding markets by opening several stores simultaneously, so keeping stores on schedule for the grand opening is high priority. By monitoring subcontractor workloads and holding weekly schedule review meetings, Layton completed all four buildings in time for their Grand Openings.

Each of the Kohl’s buildings is freestanding with a similar exterior design and “racetrack” interior, which is designed to enable customer traffic to easily move around the store.
